The adjacent Malvern Innovation Center is the research and development hub for CertainTeed Roofing, Insulation, and Ceilings. The MIC enables us to lead our industry in groundbreaking manufacturing and product innovation.
1904
A New Idea
George M. Brown sees wood roofing shingles as a major contributor to building fires. He begins the search for a safer alternative. He establishes the General Roofing Manufacturing Company and perfects individual asphalt roofing shingles. His slogan: “Quality Made Certain, Satisfaction Guaranteed.”
1917
A New Name
General Roofing Manufacturing Company changes its name to Certain-teed Products Corporation.
1938
Investing in Expansion
Certain-teed is the world’s largest manufacturer of asphalt shingles. During the next six years, management spends $4 million to improve existing manufacturing facilities.
1988
Meet Saint-Gobain
Certain-teed becomes a part of the Saint-Gobain family, increasing its potential for excellent service, innovation solutions, and a commitment to sustainability in construction.
1990
Increased Quality
CertainTeed introduces Grand Manor®, the first super-premium roofing shingle on the market and the first to offer a lifetime warranty.
1996
