Project: Voice of America Shopping Center
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
What was once the Cincinnati Voice of America Broadcasting Center has been transformed into an 80,000-square-foot retail shopping center. The center sits on a 75-acre site where WWII and Cold War broadcasts were once transmitted across the globe. There are three anchor stores and 25 smaller retailers in this state-of-the-art complex.
CertainTeed’s GlasRoc® Type X Sheathing helped protect the project until completion, serving as a solid weatherproof substrate. GlasRoc features fully embedded glass mat and a protective acrylic exterior surface that resists mold growth.
Ken Mullen, whose Dutch Mullen Construction company installed the framing and sheathing, said, “The GlasRoc® Sheathing was a good performer.” He also liked that the sheathing could be cut easily with a simple utility knife and that it did not irritate the skin. CertainTeed Sales Representative Lennie Payne added, “GlasRoc® Sheathing Type X gives architects the ability to design versatile exterior wall systems that are in full compliance with the strictest fire codes,” noting that the product is noncombustible.
