This 17-story new courthouse is being built to serve the Multnomah County and Oregon state residents for years to come. Located near the Willamette River, the project will be a visible landmark helping to define Portland's skyline. Using only the best materials and innovative construction techniques, the project is a 100-year building upgraded in line with what the public wants. Each floor is roughly 16 feet high, with tall drywall spanning its height.

Key Challenges
Weather was a challenge throughout the project, as it rains a lot in the area, so the team needed to get work done quickly before the building was closed off. The project includes sloped ceilings from the edge of the building down into the courtrooms, which is featured when the building is lit up at night. The drywall includes a level 5 finish throughout. Additionally, the budget for this project was tight, and the building was large in comparison to the area to accommodate it.

Key Achievements
Seeing as this project involves a 100-year-old building, it was important to upgrade to modern day standards compared to the dated standards that older buildings typically are built to: the ultimate goal was to have the building stand for another 100+ years. It is also a very high-profile project, with high-end finishes. The contractors married the need for abuse/impact resistant materials and smooth, clean finishes by having PCI work closely with the design team to choose products such as Diamondback tile backer, Extreme Impact Board, and Levelline Drywall Trims.

Key Achievements Cont.
The project's exterior needed to be constructed quickly to prevent weather intrusion, so PCI used products such as GlasRoc Sheathing and M2Tech Mold-Resistant Drywall to progress the project and keep it on track. The project is LEED certified (aspiring for LEED Gold).
