Project: Kalahari Resorts Condos Phase 2
Location: Sandusky, Ohio
Just three years after an African village sprang to life, it needed to double its size. The Kalahari Resort includes African-themed resort housing, a water park and a conference center. The 180,000-square-foot addition needed to be built in only six months.
The original buildings were constructed with another brand of sheathing, but because of problems with falling panels, the contractor made the switch to GlasRoc. The Enhanced Glass Reinforced Gypsum Technology gave the Kalahari architect and contractor the assurance they needed that the GlasRoc panels would not delaminate, causing costly construction delays.
“The weather in Sandusky, Ohio can be pretty harsh with the lake effects off Lake Erie,” said Larry Stone, architect at PLANNING, Design, Build. “A shell that can handle these conditions before the exterior finish is applied is crucial to the success of a project like this with such demanding timelines.”
GlasRoc doesn't require special tools or fasteners and can be cut with a simple utility knife. Bill Fisher, Superintendent for OCP Contractors, who installed the panels, noted, “My installers love GlasRoc Sheathing because it doesn’t make their forearms feel like they’ve been stung by bees.”
