Project: School of the Future
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
In September 2006, the School District of Philadelphia, Microsoft Corporation and other private industry leaders celebrated the success of an ambitious collaboration – the conceptualization and construction of a secondary “School of the Future.” Designed to provide a living blueprint for learning environments in the 21st century, the School of the Future incorporates the latest technologies to support and enhance both the academic program and school administrative functions.
CertainTeed’s Symphony® f ceiling panels were installed throughout the facility to support the building’s energy-saving daylighting designs. The high-tech kitchen and cafeteria feature VinylShield™ A ceiling panels – for cleanability, durability and scrubbability, with a perforated version delivering enhanced noise absorption in the cafeteria. Architectural Solutions® clouds work beautifully in the dining room, while Solutions® 600 wall panels provide the ideal acoustical solution in the gymnasium.
According to Felicia Doggett of Metropolitan Acoustics, LLC, “The CertainTeed ceiling tiles and wall panels were great to work with since they provide such a large variety of products. More importantly, the products achieved the acoustical parameters we were looking for.”
Dave Shreiner of DJ Keating Company, the general contractor for the project, noted, “CertainTeed’s products — the ceiling panels, the vertical baffles, the acoustical ceiling clouds, the wall panels — offer a visual appeal that’s consistent with the innovative theme of the overall environment.”
