![]() Thanks to advances in healthcare, many of today’s seniors are living longer and healthier lives, and they tend to be more educated and informed about their options in life than their predecessors. They understand that old age, and the health and mobility problems that often accompany it, no longer warrant an automatic move to a retirement home.
They don’t want to leave their present residence, often a long-time home with many happy memories. With thousands of Baby Boomers approaching retirement age, the Aging in Place movement is becoming one of the strongest trends influencing the housing industry today. |
Low maintenance and accessibility are key to aging in place.

![]() Low maintenance = leisurely living. A low-maintenance exterior translates into fewer worries for seniors aging in place. Just ask Charlie and Doris McNally. When they built their home seven years ago in Birchrunville, Pennsylvania, the last thing they wanted to deal with was exterior maintenance. At the same time, they needed the home to fit into their historic North Chester County horse country neighborhood. Siding and trim that required re-painting or re-staining were out of the question. To minimize future maintenance, the couple furnished the exterior of their home with quality vinyl and polymer building products, such as CertainTeed Cedar Impressions® polymer siding. The McNallys had seen the siding on houses near their previous home, and were impressed by how it closely emulated classic wood shake siding, but without wood’s maintenance. |

there’s nothing on the outside of the house that we have to do except
keep it clean.” For more information
