Iconic Boise Restaurant Gets a New Look with Metal Roofing
Until recently, the roof of Chandlers Prime Steaks and Fine Seafood was a relic of a bygone era. While the original roof was still in good condition, it had been designed more than 40 years ago and lacked the performance features found in newer roofing materials.
“The original roof had been on the building since its construction in the 1970s,” said Rex Chandler, founder and CEO of Chandlers Prime Steaks and Fine Seafood. “When we were replacing the roof, we really wanted to give it a new look and bring it into the modern era.”
The beauty of slate, the durability of steel
As the restaurateur began looking into different roofing systems, contemporary metal designs caught his eye due to their durability and cost effectiveness. He quickly determined that Matterhorn Metal Roofing from CertainTeed was the best fit for his restaurant’s needs. He worked closely with his local CertainTeed territory manager to find a stunning roof that would pair nicely with the trendy, speakeasy vibe of the restaurant itself.
“Chandlers was going through a major remodel,” said Steve Buchanan, territory manager for CertainTeed Roofing. “I was contacted by Chandlers’ general contractor and recommended CertainTeed metal roofing based on their desire for a stamped metal roofing panel. I think we really opened his eyes to the possibilities of metal roofing.”
Prior to Chandlers Prime Steaks and Fine Seafood’s transformation, Chandler admits he didn’t know much about metal roofing. After doing research into the product, however, he quickly shifted from having no opinion to having a high one.
“We were really impressed with how smoothly the installation went,” said Chandler. “It went on efficiently and there have been no problems since.”
One of the perks of choosing Matterhorn metal roofing was its Slate profile. With colors and chiseled features designed to recreate the look of stone, the Slate profile aligned perfectly with the remodel design.
Redefining Metal Roofing
When people think of metal roofing, they often envision traditional standing-seam systems, which are vertical steel panels. Standing-seam systems offer excellent performance, but have an aesthetic that is suited for a limited amount of architectural styles. Matterhorn metal roofing offers a variety of modern and classic looks, including shake, slate and clay tile, in a lightweight form with excellent wind, fire and impact resistance.
Matterhorn metal roofing also comes in a variety of authentic colors, including 16 colors that can be used to comply with 2016 California Title 24, Part 6, cool roof requirements. A sustainable and award-winning product, it is an ideal long-term roofing solution for residential and light commercial applications.
“In the end, everyone was impressed by the final product,” said Buchanan. “The restaurant looks great and stands out from the other buildings in that section of town. By working with Rex, we were able to give him a unique and high-performing roofing solution and add value and maintenance-free beauty to his property.”
