Trend Watch: Horizontal Fences
In February 2017, CertainTeed introduced the Bufftech® Breezewood Select Cedar semi-private vinyl fence, bringing with it the opportunity to add a fresh modern look to any landscape with new horizontal picket offerings. The product far exceeded our expectations in sales for the year.
In response to the growing number of requests for Breezewood and to expand our horizontal fence offering, we unveiled the Brookline privacy fence earlier this year. Debuting in February, Bufftech Brookline offers three smooth solid color options and four CertaGrain® texture multi-chromatic color blends that allow homeowners to choose the complementary style they prefer for their home.
Horizontal fence designs have become increasingly popular, as they offer a unique finishing touch that increases a home’s curb appeal. They are also lauded for their ability to add privacy to any outdoor living space, which ultimately adds value to a home. Brookline offers buyers a full-privacy experience, with no gaps between pickets and virtually no visibility to the outside world. On the other hand, Breezewood offers a semi-private design, which lets in natural light and achieves a more open look.
The great news for contractors is that horizontal fence designs don’t require any extra labor. The installation process mirrors that of a traditional vinyl fence, which involves digging 30-inch-deep holes for the posts and locking the panels into place.
“This is where the industry is heading,” said Doug Mucher, senior marketing manager for CertainTeed Outdoor Living. “And as its popularity continues to climb, our company will be responsive with new textures, colors and designs that are perfect for any lifestyle.”
