Project: Harrah’s Casino & Racetrack
Location: Chester, PA
Brutal Pennsylvania winters were a concern for the construction of Harrah’s three-story, 380,000-square-foot gaming and harness racing complex in Chester. Protecting the project during construction required a high-performance sheathing that would provide a long-term barrier to potential penetrations by rain, snow and ice.
Philadelphia D&M Project Manager Dennis Cook selected 5/8” GlasRoc® Type X high-performance sheathing from CertainTeed to protect the shell of the building from the elements. According to George F. Kempf Supply Co. representative Tucker Lownes, “The GlasRoc® Sheathing is easier to cut and work with and the installers prefer the smooth acrylic coating. This is important on a job where 70% of the cost is labor.”
John Kwapinksi, Project Superintendent for Philadelphia D&M, estimated that nearly 12,000 sheets were used on this project. Since no special tools or fasteners are needed, GlasRoc panels can be scored and snapped using a simple utility knife.
