The YMCA of Silver Bay built a new, 22-room lodge and conference center in Silver Bay, NY, consisting of a full dining room, kitchen, lobby/shopping area, conference room and 22 modern guest rooms. The property is a “portfolio” job, with high-end design made to look like a luxurious home along Lake George. It is the first major capital improvement to the facility since the 1970's. In order to fit the historic nature of the area, the architect held many charrette style informational meetings with many constituencies, including the YMCA board, operations personnel and the neighboring community.

Key Challenges
The weather was a challenge as construction of the facility was undertaken mostly during winter in the Adirondacks, which was intense. A limited team of drywall hangers and finishers had to work consistently and quickly to meet thedeadline. Getting materials to the job site was also a challenge given the location of the project. The contractors also experienced an issue with SilentFX QuickCut boards delaminating and minor delivery delays, which they were able to work through with the help of distributor and the CertainTeed Gypsum representative.

Key Achievements
The project was completed on time and within budget. Building this project was like building a big house, all rooms were sound-proofed for maximum privacy and had a level 5 finish since the client wanted it to look like a multi-million-dollar house on the lake. The quality of the project came first and foremost, but the contractor also had to work quickly.
