Army Sergeant Brian Jergens

Army Sergeant Brian Jergens was on his first deployment when he lost both of his legs below the knee and sustained a severe traumatic brain injury, hearing loss, internal organ damage, a broken neck, and damage to his right elbow in an IED blast in Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan on August 7, 2011. See how Brian’s specially-adapted home was built to address his specific needs for him and his family.

Army Sergeant First Class Christopher Montera

On March 2012, during his fourth deployment, Army Sergeant First Class Christopher Montera was on a dismounted mission in Siah Choy, Afghanistan, with the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, when an enemy mortar round hit a detonation cord causing a secondary explosion.

Army SPC Roberto (Robert) Reyes Jr.

On January 2005 while moving with A Company, 1-8 CAV, 1st Cavalry Division in Baghdad, Army SPC Roberto (Robert) Reyes Jr. was ejected 20-feet in the air from his vehicle after it was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED). The impact of his fall and shrapnel from the explosion resulted in severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and partial paralysis. At the time, doctors told SPC Reyes’ family he probably only had 24 hours to live.

A typical home takes five to seven months to build and costs an average of $430,000. The organization has built more than 166 such homes for wounded service members since 2004.
