Inside CertainTeed® Canada

Through the responsible development of innovative and sustainable building products, CertainTeed Canada Inc., headquartered in Mississauga, ON, has helped shape the Canadian building products industry for more than 80 years. Today, CertainTeed is a leading brand of North American interior and exterior building products, including drywall, insulation, ceilings and roofing.

For over 80 years, CertainTeed, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, has been working closely with our valued customers across Canada to achieve long-term growth and success. With manufacturing plants in every region in Canada, we can ensure a timely, secure supply of sustainable, quality products and superior service for all our customers.

When George Brown founded the General Roofing Manufacturing Company in 1904, he could not have imagined the explosive growth this country would experience. The company’s name was changed in 1917 to Certain-Teed from its slogan “Quality made certain, Satisfaction Guaranteed.” The company continued to grow as the premier asphalt shingle manufacturer. In the 1920’s, the company acquired Western Gypsum Products in Winnipeg as the first of CertainTeed Canada operations. Throughout the 1960’s our Canadian presense continued to grow with new Gypsum and Insulation facilities opening throughout the country, as well as in North America where the company acquired both a fiberglass insulation business and PVC pipe businesses which led to the introduction of solid vinyl siding. The addition of both Gypsum and Ceilings in 2007 rounded out the scope of building materials currently manufactured by CertainTeed.

A subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, the world's largest building products company, CertainTeed® is North America's leading brand of exterior and interior building products, including roofing, siding, fence, decking, railing, trim, insulation, gypsum, and ceilings. Headquartered in Malvern, PA, CertainTeed and its affiliates proudly have a staff of more than 6,300 employees and operate more than 60 manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and Canada.

The Nicholson family of Dunrobin, Ontario, share the painful story of finding out a tornado had destroyed their home. Now a year later, with the help from friends, family and corporate partners like CertainTeed, the Nicholson's are rebuilding and demonstrating the power of a strong community.

Sustainability has long been a part of our value system and culture. However, it is a journey, and our perspective and actions continue to evolve. Initially, the business drivers were resource conservation (waste, water, energy, raw materials) and quality. CertainTeed takes pride in providing the best products to meet today’s market needs, but we are also looking ahead to offer our customers innovations for tomorrow. Using our definition of sustainable products, CertainTeed focuses on creating value at the triple bottom line for all stakeholders. This means offering high performing, affordable products that enhance users’ comfort and well-being while reducing overall environmental impacts. As part of our pledge to product stewardship, our design teams use life cycle thinking to improve the sustainability of a product beginning with product inception.

CertainTeed and our parent company Saint-Gobain share the belief that ‘we do well by doing good.’ That concept drives our philanthropic decisions both as a company and in how we hope our employees will respond within their communities. Two of our favorite causes are: Homes for Our Troops – an organization that builds mortgage-free homes for severely injured veterans post- 9/11, and YouthBuild USA – a program that encourages low-income youth to unleash their positive energy and intelligence to rebuild their communities and their lives.

Want to be a part of our growing community? CertainTeed actively seeks new employees who have the skills and expertise to help take our company to new limits. Find how you can fit into our team by viewing our career page.
