Beadboard Trim

Beadboard Trim is a tongue-and-groove type of “paneling” that is characteristic of 1800s architecture. This type of paneling creates a very distinct look and feel that is associated with farmhouses and more casual design schemes. Its popularity has never faltered, and today beadboard trim is typically used decoratively. Traditional applications, known as wainscoting, usually run along the bottom half of the wall. The top of the beadboard is trimmed to mark a clear delineation between the beadboard and the painted or papered wall above it.

Other exterior applications for beadboard trim include: porch ceilings, soffit, decks and hot tubs, flower boxes, and more. When used in combination with vinyl siding or brick, beadboard trim creates a classic look with a lot of visual interest.

In the 1800s, beadboard trim was created by fitting tongue and groove boards together; it was very solid as the gaps expanded and contracted to with changing temperature. Today, beadboard paneling is generally made of a solid sheet of wood that has been tooled with the grooves associated with beadboard. It is used because it installs faster and is less expensive than tongue and groove constructions.
