Flintglas® Mineral Surfaced Cap CoolStar™

CertainTeed Flintglas Mineral Surfaced Cap Sheet CoolStar is a roll roofing product designed for use as a cap sheet over inorganic and organic built-up roofing systems. It is surfaced with ceramic granules and an acrylic-based CoolStar coating to provide a durable, heat reflective weathering surface when used as a cap sheet. Flintglas Mineral Surfaced Cap Sheet CoolStar has initial ratings for solar reflectance of 0.77 and thermal emittance of 0.92 from the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC). It also exceeds initial ENERGY STAR® and California Title 24 Standards.

Easy to Install...the CoolStar coating is factory applied by CertainTeed, so there is no need for post-installation, on-site coating. Installing a CoolStar-coated roof surface product is a one-step process, and touch-up can occur immediately after.

CertainTeed Flintglas Mineral Surfaced Cap Sheet CoolStar is manufactured on a durable, high quality fiber glass mat which receives a heavy coating of weathering grade asphalt and is surfaced with ceramic granules and an acrylic-based CoolStar coating. The fiber glass base mat provides excellent strength and moisture resistance in conjunction with a reflective, durable granule surface.

Flintglas Mineral Surfaced Cap Sheet CoolStar has an initial rating from the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) for solar reflectance at 0.77 and thermal emittance of 0.92.

CertainTeed Finagles Mineral Surfaced Cap Sheet CoolStar may be applied in either hot asphalt or approved cold adhesive such as CertainTeed''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s FlintBond™. Rolls should be stored upright, off ground, completely protected from the weather. Roof decks shall be structurally sound, dry, smooth and meet or exceed minimum requirements of the deck manufacturer, local code and CertainTeed. Roof decks shall provide positive drainage.

Owners and specifiers who choose the NDL or Integrity Coverage warranty options have the added security of manufacturer involvement in the sometimes difficult process of contractor qualifying and workmanship inspection. CoolStar exceeds initial ENERGY STAR® and California Title 24 standards.

CoolStar-coated roofing products are more energy-efficient than standard roofing products and exceed initial ENERGY STAR standards.

To meet ENERGY STAR standards, a low slope roofing surface must have a solar reflectivity of .65 (meaning it reflects 65% of the radiation away from the surface and absorbs 35%).

In general, an ENERGY STAR-labeled product can help reduce energy costs by at least 30%.

The state of California has an even tougher requirement for a "cool" or energy-saving roof called Title24.  To comply, a low slope roofing surface must have an initial solar reflectivity of .70 and thermal emittance of .75.  CoolStar-coated roofing products surpass both of these important, industry-recognized standards.
