CertaCoat Intumescent Coating

CertaCoat Intumescent Coating is an ignition barrier applied to the surface of CertaSpray® open cell polyurethane spray foam.

CertaCoat IC enhances the fire-rated performance of CertaSpray open cell spray foam insulation. It delivers best-in-class yield/coverage, at 200 f2/gallon, and is easy to use since it’s a single-component coating. This latex-based product also allows flexibility in application method – an airless sprayer is recommended, but a roller or brush can also be used – and is easy to clean up with water.

CertaCoat IC can be spray-applied onto CertaSpray insulation that has been applied in open wall cavities, between perimeter joists and to cathedral ceilings, garage ceilings, attics, and crawlspaces. CertaCoat IC is a certified ignition barrier tested to NFPA 286 with CertaSpray open cell. Product covers 200/167 ft2 per gallon. Note that CertaCoat IC is NOT a vapor barrier and thus should not be employed in situations that call for such a product.

CertaCoat MSDS

Mix well before use. All surfaces should be clean, dry and free of any dust or particulates that can potentially interfere with the proper adhesion of the coating. May be necessary to utilize primers if substrate or environmental conditions impede adhesion.

A crosshatch pattern (up-down, left to right) should be used for uniform coverage. Routine breaks in application are recommended to inspect and confirm coverage (thickness) is adequate in all areas. Proper equipment includes an airless sprayer (recommended), roller or brush.

Recommended tip sizes for the sprayer are 515-517.

CertaCoat IC should be applied in one (1) or more coats at a rate of 1 gallon per 200 square feet. Final wet film thickness must be > 8 mils. Final dry film thickness must be > 3.2 mils.

Curing: At 70°F/40% relative humidity (test conditions), product is cured to the touch after about 1 hour. Full cure achieved in 24 hours
