ProRoc® Extra Abuse Gypsum Board For Abuse Prone Areas

ProRoc® Moisture and Mold Resistant Extra Abuse Type X with M2Tech® is a 5/8" thick and 4 ft wide gypsum board
with a specially formulated fire resistive noncombustible core enclosed in a moisture and mold resistant, nearly 100% recycled paper for use in fire-rated interior wall and ceiling assemblies where improved impact, indentation and moisture and mold resistance is required. This combination affords greater resistance to abuse and sound transmission in high traffic areas than regular gypsum board.

ProRoc® Extra Abuse Type X with M2Tech® is a 5/8" thick gypsum board with a specially formulated fire resistive noncombustible core enclosed in a moisture and mold resistant, nearly 100% recycled paper for use in fire-rated interior wall and ceiling assemblies where improved impact, indentation and moisture and mold resistance is required. Engineered for use in areas requiring abuse resistance; such as corridors in schools, hospitals, and public buildings which require the added benefit of moisture and mold resistance. ProRoc® Extra Abuse Type X with M2Tech® exceeds ASTM C 1396 fire resistance performance requirements for Type X gypsum board (ASTM E 119, CAN/ULC-S101). It is suitable for use in designs listed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) and Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) for product as follows:

  • 5/8" (15.9 mm) ProRoc® Extra Abuse Type X with M2Tech® for all 5/8" (15.9 mm) ProRoc® Type X and generic Type X UL and ULC designs.

When tested for mold resistance by an independent lab at the time of manufacture, ProRoc® Extra Abuse Type X with M2Tech® achieved the best possible score of 10 per ASTM D 3273 and 0 per ASTM G 21.

CertainTeed ProRoc® Regular Gypsum Board accepts most types of paints, texture and wall covering materials. The surface shall be primed and sealed with a full-bodied latex primer before applying a final decorative material. This will equalize the suction between the joint compounds and the paper surface. For best painting results, all surfaces, including joint compound, should be clean, dust-free and not glossy. If glossy paints are used, a thin skim coat of compound over the entire surface, Level 5 finish, is recommended to reduce highlighting or joint photographing. This method is also recommended for areas of critical side lighting of natural or artificial light sources. A sealer application under wallpaper or other wall covering is also recommended so the board surface will not be damaged if the covering is subsequently removed during redecorating. Joint treatment must be thoroughly dry before proceeding with primer-sealer application and final decoration.

CertainTeed is committed to resource conservation:

  • The face and back paper used for our gypsum board consists of 100% recycled paper.
  • Synthetic or “by-product” or DSG gypsum produced from the desulphurization of flue gases at coal-fired power plants is used where sources are available. Currently three manufacturing plants—Carrollton, Kentucky, Moundsville, West Virginia and Toronto, Ontario—use 100% synthetic gypsum.
  • The total recycled content for these synthetic gypsum plants is 96%.
  • In-plant scrap is recycled back into the process.; Our 14 gypsum board manufacturing locations provide regional material coverage throughout North America.
  • Although LEED rating systems do not currently address emissions for all building materials and their effects on indoor air quality, finished CertainTeed gypsum board products have no reportable VOCs and will not affect indoor air quality.
