CertainTeed Pipe Plant in Lodi, Calif., Achieves ISO 14001 Certification, Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability

(Valley Forge, Pa.) – Affirming its strong commitment to maintaining environmentally responsible manufacturing facilities across the country, CertainTeed Corporation’s local pipe plant in Lodi, Calif., has achieved the globally recognized International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certification.

ISO 14001 standards were created to help companies minimize their environmental impact and achieve continual improvement of environmental performance. Employees at the Lodi plant have taken measures over the years to conserve water use and reduce waste in the manufacturing process. The plant also conducts regular “air audits,” during which the facility’s compressed air systems are checked for leaks, which can account for a large percentage of energy use.

“The ISO certification reinforces that we, as a company, are doing the right things to protect the environment and helps ensure that we can continue to build on the efficiency gains we’ve achieved,” said Dave Duggins, plant manager at CertainTeed’s Lodi plant.

To secure the globally recognized certification, CertainTeed developed a formalized environmental management system that underwent rigorous review by a third party auditor. The Lodi plant manufactures polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe that is used in trenchless municipal utility installations, agriculture irrigation projects and water well applications. Specifically, the plant produces CertainTeed® Certa-Lok™ pipe, which has achieved industry recognition for its ability to increase efficiency, improve productivity, cut costs and reduce the environmental impact of projects.
