CertainTeed Supports Homes for Our Troops in Colorado, Donates Roofing Materials

(Valley Forge, Pa.) – To support and show appreciation to a Parker, Colo. veteran, CertainTeed Corporation recently donated roofing materials to Homes for Our Troops, a national non-profit organization dedicated to building specially adapted, no-cost homes for severely injured veterans. The roofing is being used in a home specially outfitted for maximum freedom of movement for local hero Army Corporal Nick Orchowski, with installation led by Boulder, Colo. contractor Black Roofing in conjunction with Integrity Roofing of Colorado Springs.

The donation is part of CertainTeed’s ongoing support of Homes for Our Troops, which includes the on-going donation of roofing materials with 29 homes across the U.S slated for the coming year.

“We are proud to be a supporter of Homes for Our Troops, an organization that has filled a true need for those who have made such a huge sacrifice for our country, giving them the ability to live more independently,” said Tom Smith, president of CertainTeed Roofing. “This donation of high quality CertainTeed roofing materials will contribute to a low maintenance lifestyle for many years to come.”

In addition, a special three-day “Build Brigade” was held over the weekend of May 11. Each day, approximately 100 volunteers were on site, working long hours and refueled by donated meals and Corporal Orchowski’s touching story of survival. A volunteer home landscaping day was also held on June 30.

The one-story house, constructed by volunteer teams of skilled laborers, features an open floor plan with standard accessibility items tailored to Corporal Orchowski’s specific needs. In addition, the home was outfitted with a complete CertainTeed Integrity Roof System™, comprised of underlayment, durable Landmark™ color-blended asphalt shingles, accessory products and ventilation, backed by an industry-leading, lifetime limited warranty.

“We have been able to build over 100 specially adapted homes across the country only through the generosity and patriotism of individuals and companies like CertainTeed that have stepped up to do their part in aiding our severely injured veterans,” said Kenneth O. Preston, president of Homes for Our Troops. “We are proud of this support and that CertainTeed has chosen to become a part of the Homes for Our Troops family.”

Homes for Our Troops has built more than 100 mortgage-free homes for wounded service members since 2004. For more information about CertainTeed roofing products, visit To read more about local hero Army Corporal Nick Orchowski, visit
