Credit Descriptions

Energy and Atmosphere
Optimize Energy Performance (EA 1): Achieve increasing levels of building energy performance above required minimum performance standards.

Materials and Resources
Construction Waste Management (credit 2): Recycle and/or salvage at least 50% or 75% of nonhazardous construction and demolition debris.

Environmentally Preferable Products- Materials (credit 2.2): Use products that meet the criteria for environmentally preferable products.

Environmentally Preferable Products- Local (credit 2.2): Use products that are extracted, processed and manufactured within 500 miles of home.

Waste Management (credit 3): Reduce or divert waste generated from construction activities from landfills and incinerators to a level below the industry norm.

Recycled Content (credit 4): Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the preconsumer content constitutes at least 10% or 20% (based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project.

Regional Materials (credit 5): Use building materials or products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of the project site for a minimum of 10% or 20% (based on cost) or the total materials value.

Rapidly Renewable Materials (credit 6): Use rapidly renewable building materials and products for 2.5% of the total value of all building materials and products used in the project (based on cost).

Indoor Environmental Quality
Minimum Acoustical Performance (IEQ Prereq. 3): Design classrooms and other core learning spaces to include sufficient sound absorptive finishes for compliance with reverberation time requirements as specified in ANSI Standard S12.60-2002 and confirm that 100% of ceiling area (excluding lay-in lights, diffusers, grills) in all classrooms and core learning spaces

Low-Emitting Materials- Ceiling and Wall Systems (IEQ 4.6): Acoustical ceiling systems installed in the building interior must meet the testing and product requirements of the California Dept. of Health Services “Standard Practice for the Testing of Volatile Organic Emissions from Various Sources Using Small-scale Environmental Chambers” (incl. 2004 Addenda).

Daylight and Views—Daylight (credit 8.1): Achieve daylighting in 75% of regularly occupied spaces, or, for schools, achieve daylighting in 75% or 90% of classroom spaces.

Enhanced Acoustical Performance (IEQ 9): Design the classroom and core learning spaces to meet the Sound Transmission Class (STC) requirements of ANSI Standard S12.60-2002, “Acoustical Performance Criteria, Design Requirements and Guidelines for Schools.”
