Residential New Construction

Case Study No.1:
New Home Builder in
Charlotte, North Carolina

Project Highlights:
This mid-sized new homebuilder in the Southeast has been specifying CertainTeed WeatherBoards™ FiberCement Siding since it was introduced. The firm had been using a composite wood product, then switched to WeatherBoards siding to minimize maintenance and warranty issues. WeatherBoards siding had been carefully researched versus other siding materials and found to be superior for a number of reasons. The builder feels the siding matches up well with their style of homes and offers cleaner lines and more realistic detail.

Products Used:
• WeatherBoards 7-1/2" Smooth Lap Siding
• FiberTect™-sealed
• Prefinished in Clay
• Wood window and corner trim
• Dentils and porch columns and railings are molded millwork

Builder: Saussy Burbank Homes

Residential Remodeling

Case Study No.2:
Remodeler in Northwest

Vancouver, Washington

Project Highlights:
This large remodeling firm had been using another brand of fiber cement siding, though they were concerned about its moisture retention and freezing. After seeing Certainteed’s exclusive DuraPress® process, they switched to WeatherBoards™ FiberCement Siding, citing the fact that WeatherBoards siding absorbs far less moisture than competitive panels. They also feel WeatherBoards siding looks more realistic, and their customers appreciate the looks, performance and low-maintenance.

Products Used:
• WeatherBoards 8-1/4" Cedar Lap Siding
• FiberTect™-sealed
• Prefinished in Cream
• Wood corner trim
• Decorative scallops, porch columns and balcony railings are molded millwork

Remodeler: Precision Exteriors

Chester, California

Residential New Construction

Case Study No.3:
New Home Builder in West
Chester, California

Project Highlights:
The homeowners found fiber cement siding on the Internet and inquired about it at a local lumberyard in Northern California. They saw samples, then toured the WeatherBoards plant in White City, OR and visited the prefinisher. The builder was selected for his meticulous work. The home is a 6,000+ square foot “showplace” that virtually sits atop a mountain near Lake Almanor. Certainteed WeatherBoards siding is well-suited to the mountainous Northern California winter-summer weather cycles. Also, visitors find it hard to believe the home is not sided with stained cedar.

Products Used:
• WeatherBoards 8-1/4" Cedar Lap Siding
• FiberTect™-sealed
• Machine-prefinished with Woodperfect® Fiber Cement Coating (Redwood #6703)
• All trim, railings, etc. are cedar

Builder: Tom Shenin

Southeastern, North Carolina
Case Study No.4:
New Construction in Southeast
Southeastern, North Carolina

Project Highlights:
The private community where this 3,600 square foot home is located has an architectural review committee that establishes standards for all new homes. The committee tightly restricts the types of siding materials that may be used. WeatherBoards siding, by name, is the group’s approved brand of lap siding. The CertainTeed WeatherBoards siding on this home was face-nailed by the contracted installer. Because this private community is in close proximity to the coast, storms and high winds are always a possibility. In areas such as this, face-nailing of fiber cement siding is often preferred by installers, and may be frequently required by building codes as well. This owner enjoys the rich appearance of cedar siding, plus the low maintenance of WeatherBoards.

Products Used:
• WeatherBoards™ 7-1/2" Cedar Lap Siding
• FiberTect™-sealed
• Field-painted with recommended topcoat
• Corner trim is composite
• Columns and shutters are molded polymer
• Soffit is CertainTeed vinyl

Builder: Self-contracted by owner
